The Peperomia obtusifolia, also known as the “Baby Rubber Plant”, is a succulent-like variety of peperomia. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, these subtropical evergreen plants have a trailing growth habit and are fast-growing – growing up to three to four feet a year under the right conditions. It is characterized by its thick upright stems with glossy, oversized leaves that store water – shriveling up during drought and plumping back up when water is available.

The leaves are typically dark green, but can also have white and/or yellow variegation that resembles marbling. White flower spikes may appear from spring to fall, growing 8 cm in height above the leaves. Peperomias love a humid environment, but be cautious not to overwater, watering once or twice a week, or as soil begins to dry out. The “Baby Rubber Plant” grows faster in bright indirect light, and variegated varieties may loose variegation if enough light is not provided.

WATER

Water 1-2 times every week or when soil dries out.

SUNLIGHT

Medium to bright indirect light. Maintain between 65-75F degrees.

NUTRIENTS

Apply a balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength once or twice during the growing season
